Atlanta -- Atlantans will get an eyeful the week of Independence Day, when PETA's mobile
billboard showing a photo of a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
handler jabbing a baby elephant with a bullhook rolls into town. Reading,
"Atlanta, Take the Elephants' Side: Say 'No' to Bullhooks!" the
billboard will circulate throughout Atlanta's shopping areas and make
appearances during the city's, Fourth of July festivities and sporting events.
PETA hopes to drum up support for the bullhook ban currently under review by
Atlanta's Public Safety Committee.
When: Monday, July 2, through Friday, July 6
Where: Traveling throughout Atlanta, with stops including the finish line of the Peachtree Road Race at Piedmont Park, the Centennial Olympic Park's Fourth of July celebration, and Turner Field during Wednesday's Braves' game
"Atlanta's current regulations will do nothing to stop circuses such as
Ringling Bros. from beating, yanking, and hooking elephants with
bullhooks," says PETA Foundation Director of Captive Animal Law
Enforcement Delcianna Winders. "It's time for Atlantans to speak up and
demand that the city ban these weapons of pain and fear for good."
