PHOENIX - Animal rights activists stripped down to make a statement in downtown Phoenix on Friday. Members of People for the Ethical Treatement of Animals rallied outside the Arizona Center at 3rd Street and Van Buren holding "Bare Skin - Don't Wear Skin" signs. The activists asked shoppers not to buy fur, leather or animal skins. "Fashion is supposed to be fun, but there is nothing fun about wearing bits and pieces of dead cows, foxes and other animals," said PETA activist Lauren Stroyeck. PETA says animals killed for their fur are often abused and brutally slaughtered
Animal rights activists got the attention of passersby near City Park Tuesday afternoon. David Matthews, a volunteer with PETA, took his clothes off, covered himself in fake blood and tried to keep cool in a giant meat package, made to look similar to the ones you buy at the grocery store. The eye-catching demonstration is part of a national PETA campaign devised to get people talking about how animals are treated by the commercial meat industry, and whether it is right to support that industry by eating meat. One passerby who stopped for a look says that while he still eats meat, he understands why animal rights activists are speaking out against the way animals are treated when they are slaughtered.
Usually people complain when they’re looked at like a piece of meat, but participants of a traveling PETA protest encouraged ogling during their Kelowna stop. “If (passersby) see me like a piece of bloody meat maybe they’ll realize that the animals they eat are, like myself, living, breathing creatures that have feelings and can love,” said David Matthews, who was lying on the sidewalk Tuesday afternoon, wrapped up in cellophane, doused in blood-red raspberry sauce and tagged like a steak. He and PETA cohort Emily Lavender aren’t just revelling in the macabre—tales of castrations, live disembowelment and beak or teeth removal, were among the details they delivered to curious onlookers—with their “meat is murder” tour. Outside steakhouses, butcher shops and abattoirs, they are also spreading vegan tidings.
The 4th Earl of Sandwich, John Montagu, the man in which the venerable meal item that basically consists of two pieces of bread with a filling was named, could have never imagined the amazing evolution his beloved handheld feast would experience. Especially when one considers the delicious selection of sandwiches hungry plant-based dieters can now order at cutting edge vegan restaurants. But even in modern times it can be a challenge to locate establishments that offer this scrumptious fare
One of our favorite local restaurants The Remedy Diner, in downtown Raleigh, has been included in PETA’s list for Top Five Vegan Sandwiches. The sandwich, The Tempeh Tantrum is a combination marinated tempeh, homemade vegan pesto, vegan bacon, avocado and lettuce on sourdough. They also mentioned their Vegan Key Lime Pie.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals a.k.a. PETA is joining the fun and p.r. hijinks of National Sandwich Month, which stretches through August, by creating its "top 5 vegan sandwiches" list. Sacramento's own Sugar Plum Vegan, located at 2315 K St., made this honor roll with its "garnet yam & avocado panini" sandwich, which comes with tomatoes, roasted onions and poppy seed aioli on ciabatta bread.
The "Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive" has joined forces with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). In a new PETA ad, world-renowned astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson suggests “kindness is a virtue,” and more people need to show compassion for the fellow inhabitants of our planet.

The filmmaker used computer-generated imagery (CGI) to depict the animals in the new sci-fi drama because he felt uncomfortable with the idea of employing live chimps for the movie.
