Animals Need Friends (:15)
Animals need friends. For a list of 10 easy things that
you can do to brighten up their lives, please contact People
for the Ethical Treatment of Animals at 757-622-PETA, or
visit PETA.org. Thank you.
Save a Life. Adopt From a Shelter. (:20)
Looking for love? Are you ready for a long-term, committed
relationship? Do you dream of curling up next to someone
who is warm and loving? If you answer “yes”
to all of these, you may be ready to open your heart and
your home to one of the millions of dogs and cats who are
waiting in shelters for a permanent home. By adopting your
four-legged friend—rather than buying one from a breeder
or pet store—you’ll help save a life and find
true love. For more information, please visit HelpingAnimals.com.
Backyard Dog (:30)
Next time you’re taking a break from the summer heat
with a cold drink and the air conditioning cranked, think
about your dog. Is he or she roasting outside in the heat—and
if so, why? Dogs need plenty of shade, and fresh, clean
water can help them cool down when they’re outside,
too, but the bottom line is that your dog is part of the
family who not only wants to be inside with you but needs
to be out of the sweltering heat. Dogs who are left outside
during hot summer months aren’t just bored out of
their minds; many suffer and die from dehydration and heatstroke,
too. Remember—dogs depend on us, so let them inside,
take them for walks every day, and think of other ways to
include them in family activities. For more information,
call PETA at 757-622-7382 or log onto HelpingAnimals.com.
Thanks for caring.
Hot Dog (:30)
It’s a scorching hot day. Imagine being trapped in
a parked car. The temperature inside is rising. Now imagine
that you’re wearing a fur coat. Leaving your dog in
a hot car is not only uncomfortable, it’s also dangerous.
If it’s too hot for you, it’s far worse for
your dog because unlike us, dogs can’t perspire to
cool down and within minutes the temperature, even with
the windows down a little, can exceed 100 degrees. So on
warm days, please be kind and leave your dog safe at home.

Natural Disasters (:30)
Animals are often left behind by people fleeing hurricanes,
fires, floods, and earthquakes. These abandoned animals
cannot survive on their own. If you must evacuate your home,
please never leave an animal behind. If you absolutely cannot
take your animal with you, never leave him or her helplessly
chained or caged. Many animals die because they cannot escape
fires or rising waters. Animals need your help. Call PETA
today at 757-622-7382 or log onto HelpingAnimals.com for
more information. Thank you.
Violence Toward Animals (:30)
We hear a lot about youth violence today—what’s
causing it and how to stop it. We now know that people who
are violent to others often begin by abusing animals. Cruelty
to animals is serious business with serious consequences
for all of us. If you see an adult or a child hurting an
animal, please report it to the proper authorities immediately.
Children who abuse animals are often themselves abused,
and the cycle must stop. For more information, contact People
for the Ethical Treatment of Animals at 757-622-PETA or
visit HelpingAnimals.com.
Violence Toward Animals (Animal Abuse Leads to Human
Abuse) (:30)
People who are violent to animals rarely stop there. Studies
show that people who abuse their animal companions are likely
to abuse their kids. So if you see an animal mistreated
or neglected, please report it. Because the person who comes
home and kicks the dog is probably just warming up. For
more information on how you can help animals, contact People
for the Ethical Treatment of Animals at 757-622-7382 or
visit HelpingAnimals.com. Thank you.
Pet Stores (:60)
How much is that doggie in the window? The price is probably
higher than you think. Most pups sold in pet stores come
from “puppy mills,” where mother dogs spend
lonely days in dirty cages, producing litter after litter
for the pet industry. The frightened pups are taken away
from their mothers when they are still just babies. As tempting
as it may be to take a puppy home from a pet store, your
dollars are what keep cruel puppy mills in business. The
puppy you buy from the pet store today will just be replaced
by another one tomorrow. Please, never buy an animal from
a pet store. Save a life instead. If you have the time and
resources to care for an animal, adopt a homeless dog or
cat from a shelter. Millions of healthy, friendly animals
are killed in shelters every year because there simply aren’t
enough good homes. Remember, if you buy, a pound puppy will
die. To learn more, visit People for the Ethical Treatment
of Animals’ Web site HelpingAnimals.com.
Spay Today—Save a Life Tomorrow (:30)
Did you know that one unspayed female cat can produce 36
cats in just one and a half years? Or that an unneutered
male cat or dog can help create limitless litters?
Every year, millions of animals are euthanized in animal
shelters, and millions more are abandoned to die on the
streets. The good news is that all these deaths can be prevented
with spaying and neutering. Altering animals also prevents
deadly cancers and other diseases.
So what are you waiting for? Make an appointment to get
your animal friend spayed or neutered today, and urge everyone
you know to do the same. Remember, every single stray cat
and every neglected dog came from an animal who wasn’t
spayed or neutered. For more information, please call 757-622-7382
or visit HelpingAnimals.com. Thank you.

Animals
in Entertainment (:30)
Many people grew up loving circuses and other traveling animal
shows, never realizing what life might be like for the animals.
Training wild animals to do things that they don’t understand
takes force, and routine discipline with a hook or whip or
the heel of a boot shows the animal exactly who’s boss.
Don’t patronize animal acts. Please contact People for
the Ethical Treatment of Animals at 757-622-PETA, or visit
Circuses.com. Thank you. Circuses (:30)
The fight against oppression is never an easy one—it’s
even harder if you have no voice. For animals held captive
in circuses, life consists of cramped cages, shackles, and
daily beatings. There is no escape. They cannot demand their
freedom. Images like these bring only one word to mind—slavery.
Be an abolitionist for the animals. Please don’t go
to circuses. For more information, contact PETA at 757-622-PETA,
or visit Circuses.com. Thank you. |

Anti-Fur (:30)
There are lots of ways to show that you have style. Wearing
fur isn’t one of them. Each year, millions of animals
are drowned or beaten to death in the wild or gassed or
electrocuted in captivity for their coats. Cruelty is one
fashion statement that we can do without. Please help the
animals by joining People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Consider Vegetarianism (:20)
If you care about animals, good health, and the Earth, please
consider becoming a vegetarian. The lives you save may include
your own. For free, tasty vegetarian recipes, call People

Environment (:30)
Millions of people all over the world go hungry while we
waste our land and water resources. Did you know that raising
animals for human consumption uses eight times as much water
as growing fruits, vegetables, and grains? And that the
same amount of land can produce 17 times more soybean protein
than meat protein? For great vegetarian recipes and a free
vegetarian starter kit, call People for the Ethical Treatment
of Animals toll-free at 1-888-VEG-FOOD. That’s 1-888-VEG-FOOD,
or visit GoVeg.com. Thank you.
Vegetarian Celebrities (:20)
Paul McCartney, Chrissie Hynde, Alec Baldwin, and Alicia
Silverstone—what do these people have in common? They’re
all vegetarians. For free recipes and information about
the benefits of a vegetarian diet, contact People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals at 1-888-VEG-FOOD, or visit

Animal Research (:25)
Animal research gives experimenters a paycheck, but it doesn’t
give us cures for human illnesses. Using animals is costly,
cruel, inefficient, and old-fashioned. Sophisticated non-animal
research methods using whole human DNA, for example, is
where our money should go. Help us insist on modern research.

StopAnimalTests.com. Thank you.
Charity List (:20)
Before you donate to any health charity, find out which
ones still experiment on animals and which ones use sophisticated
non-animal research methods. Give ’til it hurts but
not if it hurts others. For details, contact People for
the Ethical Treatment of Animals at 757-622-PETA, or visit
StopAnimalTests.com. Thank you.
Cruelty-Free Shopping List (:15)
Believe it or not, some companies still test shampoos and
household products on animals. Six hundred companies don’t.
For a free list showing which is which, contact People for
the Ethical Treatment of Animals at 757-622-PETA, or visit
StopAnimalTests.com. Thank you.
Dissection (:30)
Biology is the study of life. So why are millions of animals
killed every year for classroom dissections? Dissection
desensitizes students to the sanctity of life and can encourage
them to harm animals elsewhere, perhaps in their own backyards.
In California, investigators brought up the possible connection
between a series of cat mutilations and the cat dissections
at the local high school. The perpetrators of school shootings
at Columbine and other schools had histories of killing
animals. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Alternatives
to dissection are readily available—for all grade
levels—and are even used at many of the nation’s
top medical schools. Whether you are a student, a parent,
or a concerned taxpayer, you can act to end dissection in
your local schools and make your community safer. To learn
more, call People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals at
757-622-PETA, or visit TeachKind.org. It’s time to
take the death out of life sciences. |
