• Behind the Scenes With 'Inglourious Basterds' Star Eli Roth

    Written by PETA

Actor/director Eli Roth wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty bashing "Natzees" with a baseball bat as Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, aka "The Bear Jew," in Inglourious Basterds, nor has he shied away from gore in his "oh-my-god-this-is-so-disgusting-but-I-cannot-look-away" films Hostel and Cabin Fever. But now, Eli Roth—who, behind all the (fake) blood and guts, has a heart of gold—has teamed up with PETA to direct and star in our very first MySpace exclusive PSA. In the ad, he reminds everyone that the violence in his movies is fake—but violence against animals is real and is an important issue.

View the ad on MySpace and then check out behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot:

A guy who enjoys an "all in good fun" beheading and long walks on the beach? What more could you ask for?

    How about some exclusive pictures?

  • PETA Calls Off Protest of 'Vogue' Event

    Written by PETA

And it's all because friends don't protest friends.

No, we haven't suddenly made amends with Anna Wintour. It's longtime PETA friend Charlize Theron who has us putting the kibosh on our protest plans.

Charlize will be on hand at Vogue's Fashion Week party on Thursday to sign copies of the magazine's September issue. But while Charlize may be gracing the cover of this notoriously furry magazine, the Oscar-winning actress wouldn't be caught dead in fur.

The PETA pal even wore our "Fight Breedism" T-shirt to her Vogue interview.

Don't worry—we'll still be making sure that ol' Anna hears from us. She and fellow fur fiend Michael Kors will be putting in an appearance at Wintour's "Fashion's Night Out" event at Macy's … and so will we.

"I just found out that I was voted 'PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian!' How cool is that?!! Thank you so much for voting!! That was totally unexpected!! I was jumping up and down when I heard the news! I even Googled it to make sure I wasn't being punk'd! Ha ha!!"
    —Kellie Pickler, MySpace.com

Kellie's exuberant reaction to winning our Sexiest Vegetarian of the Year award was too good not to share. Of course she wasn't getting punk'd! We, along with everyone who voted, just believe she has a face as lovely as her heart (and voice). Congrats, Kellie!

  • Tila Tequila Loves to Fake It

    Written by PETA

Our friends over at globalGrind have given Tila Tequila a place to speak her mind, and the Queen of MySpace has some harsh words for animal abusers.

    Tila Tequila

Titling her post "Killing Animals is F**ING Wrong … It's That Simple," she's giving raccoons, bunnies, foxes, and all animals killed for fur a shout-out:

I don't know who those people are that have it in their hearts to skin an animal while [he or she] is still alive, but I hope that by promoting fur alternatives I'm doing my part to stop that needless suffering. You will never see me wearing a fur, and if you do, rest assured it's FAKE. If you love animals, you cannot justify wearing them. It's that simple. Remember, hot girls fake it … for the animals. I should know, cause I'm hot. Lol.

Yes, Tila, you are hot! And your heart of gold makes you even sexier (if that's possible). I would like to be the first to officially suggest that the charity work you are considering should include joining other sexy celebs such as Eva Mendes and Khloe Kardashian and using what your momma gave ya to rock our "Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign.

    Seal

It seems like everyone and their grandma (literally) is getting into social networking. Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter are all the rage nowadays, so you know that PETA is all over it. As long as you're scanning your tweets on Twitter and poking friends on Facebook, why don't you check out what PETA is up to as well?

At the moment, we're fighting to end the Canadian seal slaughter. Here are a few easy tips for spreading the word about the seal slaughter through your social network:

    Facebook

    1. Become a fan of PETA's Facebook page. This takes two seconds, tops, and lets all your friends know that you're fighting the seal slaughter. You can opt to get daily announcements on new ways to get active and check our status updates throughout the day.
    2. Sign petitions and join causes. Facebook makes it easy to take action with "Causes and Petitions" that you can sign with a click, post on your wall, and forward to all your friends in less than a minute. Check out this petition to help stop the Canadian seal slaughter.

    MySpace

    1. Add PETA as a MySpace friend. You can read our blogs and bulletins, watch videos, leave comments, and way more. PETA's MySpace page is your all-in-one center for staying up-to-date on animal rights.
    2. Get interactive. PETA's MySpace page has all sorts of banners, badges, and videos to embed, making it easy for you to personalize your own page and voice your support for baby seals. We even have a brand new MySpace wrapper, so if you can copy and paste, you can give your profile a pro-seal makeover.

    Twitter

    1. Follow @OfficialPETA. By following PETA on Twitter, you can get the latest updates on the seal slaughter battle and chat with our lovely and knowledgeable Twitter rep (yours truly).
    2. Tweet for seals. You could RT (retweet) our tweets, let your friends know that they can follow us, or even send a tweet to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper (@pmharper) to ask him to stop the seal slaughter.

Now that you're equipped to fight the social-networking war against the seal slaughter, I'll see you on the field!

  • Jessica Biel Enters the Blogosphere

I have a confession to make: I'm a huge fan of Jessica Biel, and way back in the day, I never missed an episode of 7th Heaven. And c'mon, her role in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was down-right terrifying.

So it was great to read on People.com this morning that the actress and producer is jumping headfirst into the blogging world. And by headfirst, I mean straight into the deep end of animals rights. Hey, we like a girl who gets right down to business!

She mentions her love for her dogs, nonprofit organizations, and Hole in the Paper Sky, a recent short film about the life of a man who is forever changed by the companionship he receives from a laboratory dog. Whether you've seen PETA's video about animal testing or not, Hole in the Paper Sky sounds like a definite tearjerker.

Anyway, Biel is MySpace Celebrity's feature icon, and here's her blog. So while she's mastering the whole blog-lingo thing, I recommend jumping on over there to see what she has to say.

And don't worry, Jessica. There are no blurkers here. ...

  • Colbie Caillat!

MySpace superstar Colbie Caillat, who’s more or less poised to take over the world after her smash hit song “Bubbly” tore up the charts this year, recently sat down with my esteemed colleague Nicole Nuss to talk about what she does to keep the animals in her life happy. She’s adorable.

Ah, MySpace. It can be so tacky, so infuriating, so unutterably ugly. But there’s no denying that it’s also completely addictive. And the good news is that it’s turned out to be a really powerful tool for activism—helping to encourage a sense of community among activists, and keeping people up to date on breaking news and campaigns. Which is why we’re very excited to announce the launch of the official PETA MySpace page. (Yeah, I know—those trendsetting hipsters over at peta2 have had their MySpace page since it was in Beta. We just took our time with this one.)

So for my fellow MySpace junkies out there, you don’t have to admit that you sometimes spend your Friday nights sending out bulletins about, like, what you ate for dinner, but please do take a moment to check out PETA’s MySpace page, and maybe even add us as your friend. Kthxbye.
