Action Center

Group of the Month

In 1986, a handful of enthusiastic activists from the Dallas area formed Animal Connection of Texas, a group dedicated to eliminating animal suffering. Today, ACT has more than 300 members and holds monthly meetings in both Dallas and Ft. Worth.

ACT's initial goal was to ban pound seizure in Dallas. ACT made a proposition to City Council members, invited its group members to City Council meetings, and sported STOP ("Stop Taking Our Pets") signs, among other campaign actions. After its four-year campaign, ACT succeeded in getting a ban on pound seizure passed.

ACT has played a vital role in spaying and neutering animal companions in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. ACT established SNYP (a discount coupon program), places spay/neuter ads on local buses, and helps bring a free mobile spay/neuter-clinic to low-income residents in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

ACT members are very active on a wide variety of issues. They hold regular protests at the circus, the rodeo, March of Dimes walk-a-thons, fur stores, KFCs, and puppy mills. One of the group's current campaigns focuses on a vivisector at a local university, Dr. Robert Johnson, who uses foxhounds in experiments that involve high-altitude tests.

"ACT's greatest accomplishment is its staying power.†Next year, ACT will turn 20!" ACT advisory board member and former president Susan Oakey eagerly exclaims. If you live in the Dallas area, please join ACT in speaking up for animals.
