Summer Tour Contractor

Position Objective:

To reach young people and others with PETA's message and to inspire young people to get active for animals by coordinating, promoting, and attending events, appearances, and PETA programs.

Term of Employment:

May to August 2008 (Temporary/Contract)

Reports to:

Manager of Youth Outreach

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Organize or attend events where young people can learn about animal rights issues
  • Respond to correspondence from high school and college students, as needed
  • Attend Youth Outreach and Campaigns Department meetings, as needed
  • Contact activists around the country to organize tabling, events, and demonstrations
  • Represent PETA's youth campaigns to the general public
  • Travel to attend and table at planned public events
  • Follow the Youth Outreach and Campaigns Department's standard operating procedures
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Activist experience
  • Outgoing, energetic, and personable manner
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license with three years' clean driving record
  • Ability to travel frequently
  • Proven successful event-planning experience
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of people
  • Thorough knowledge of youth culture and other diverse cultures
  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA's philosophy and ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
  • Proficiency in conducting online research
  • Effective organizational skills and experience
