Production Artist

Position Objective:

To produce literature, publications, direct-mail pieces, and other print materials that support the objectives and identity of the organization

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Director of Production

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work with various PETA departments and international affiliates to produce cost-efficient printed materials (both template-driven and independently designed)
  • Work with the publications team to produce various publications, including PETA India's Animal Times, the annual review, and the Rescued! calendar
  • Work with the Membership Department to produce pledge letters and special event invites
  • Work with in-house and out-of-house graphic designers to finalize and update work that they have submitted
  • Coordinate and execute all ad resizing for PETA's ad and PSA placements, including resizing, routing, and finalizing ads according to publications' specs
  • Coordinate and execute all demo posters, including design, routing, and printing
  • Keep all jobs on schedule using the appropriate database and scheduling systems
  • Prepare all projects to go to print, including making final editing changes, pre-flighting, and FTPing
  • Review and approve blue lines and matchprints
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations based on established standards of procedures and templates for organizationwide needs
  • Upload and download files from the FTP site
  • Maintain and update the archive server
  • Assist with creative ideas, displays, prop-making, and other visuals
  • Offer money-saving solutions or suggestions for production projects
  • Color-correct and retouch images
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Two to three years of direct or related experience
  • Proficiency in Macintosh systems and software, including QuarkXpress, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and Acrobat Professional
  • Experience with printing and production techniques for successful offset printing
  • Experience with pre-flighting, preparing files for print, and proofing
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize jobs in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Good organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Flexibility and ability to work well with others
  • Ability to work through technical problems with systems, software, or files
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
