Planned Giving Officer
Position Objectives:
To serve as a primary contact for specific PETA members, promote the inclusion of PETA in estate plans, and develop and implement an integrated fundraising strategy to maximize fundraising potential for planned giving and major gift donors

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Cultivate relationships through research, visits, and other forms of professional contact with PETA members who have made PETA the beneficiary of a planned gift, including members of the Augustus Club
- Identify, solicit, and negotiate planned giving with PETA members through research, the development of appropriate and well-targeted “cases for giving,” visits, and other forms of professional contact
- Respond to additional requests for assistance from PETA members and the general public about various planned gifts, property gifts, and cruelty-free investing through correspondence, phone contacts, and one-on-one meetings
- Assist the senior vice president for development, the planned giving manager, the major gifts director, and other Development Department staff to develop and implement successful fundraising strategies
- Assist in the production of PETA’s honorary planned-giving club quarterly newsletter
- Document pertinent information for the purpose of enhancing and developing donor profiles for the development database
- Prepare written and oral reports, as requested by the planned giving manager and senior vice president for development
- Keep up-to-date on planned-giving techniques and changes affecting charitable giving, including attending planned-giving seminars and courses
- Represent PETA in a professional capacity at PETA fundraising events as well as numerous other animal advocacy events and forums
- Keep apprised of and maintain a clear understanding of PETA’s campaigns and activities and animal rights issues in general and be able to articulate PETA’s objectives to members
- Perform other duties assigned by the planned giving manager and senior vice president for development
- Maintain strict confidentiality
Qualifications:
- Degree in a related field or equivalent experience required
- Adherence to a vegan diet required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent research skills required
- Public relations skills strongly preferred
- Ability to represent PETA’s philosophy and objectives and to professionally advocate PETA’s position on issues
- Ability to travel
- Ability to work independently using discretion in matters relating to donors
- Ability to work with multiple departments
- Ability to act independently and exercise initiative to respond quickly to donor needs
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with members and supporters about sensitive and personal subjects
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet manner
