Legislative Campaign Coordinator for China (PETA Asia-Pacific)

Position Objective:

To coordinate PETA Asia-Pacific's work with regard to state and federal agencies in order to bring about positive changes in the lives of animals throughout China, as assigned by the director. This position is based in China or Manila.

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Director of PETA Asia-Pacific

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Research and interpret federal statutes and associated regulations on animal welfare
  • Prepare comments for federal agencies on proposed rulemaking and permit applications on animal welfare
  • Prepare complaints to local prosecutors and state and federal agencies with regard to PETA Asia-Pacific's investigations and campaigns
  • Submit letters to prosecutors and other law enforcement personnel to encourage diligent prosecution of cruelty-to-animals cases
  • Conduct legal research on a variety of animal protection and animal rights issues
  • Develop legal action to further the organization's objectives
  • Work with government officials and companies on legislation to assist their work for animals
  • Travel for meetings, events, or other activities, as needed
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the director

Qualifications:

  • Passion for fighting cruelty to animals and desire and willingness to participate in provocative campaigns
  • Outgoing and personable manner with exceptional communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Patience when dealing with the media and members of the public
  • Proven thorough knowledge of all animal welfare issues
  • Support for PETA Asia-Pacific's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA Asia-Pacific's positions on issues
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as needed
  • Computer proficiency
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
  • Must be a self-starter who can deal with multiple and various tasks at once
  • Experience in animal welfare law preferred
  • Experience with administrative law, environmental law, and/or criminal law a plus
  • Native Chinese speaker
  • Good English skills
