Position Objectives:
To provide the highest quality of care for SNIP mobile clinic patients during hospitalization and surgery and to supervise the daily clinic operations

Reports to:
SNIP Program Manager
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Oversee daily on-site operations of the clinic and the veterinarian assistant on duty
- Perform, assess, and communicate test results and the medical histories of patients to the attending veterinarian
- Work under the direction of the veterinarian to administer medications, including anesthesia drugs, and prepare animals for surgery
- Monitor surgery patients from the administration of anesthesia through their full recovery Independently assess patients’ readiness for discharge
- Maintain controlled-drug and supply inventories and appropriate record-keeping and reporting
- Comply with the applicable laws for licensed veterinary technicians established by the Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency
- Communicate with clients regarding post-op patient care as well as the results of diagnostic testing and other medical findings
- Supervise and participate in required continuing education programs to meet all state requirements
- Establish and adhere to maintenance programs for all medical equipment
- Supervise and train new veterinary assistants
- Maintain strict confidentiality about client, patient, and donor information
- Drive the SNIP mobile clinic to and from designated sites
- Input all necessary data into the SNIP computer
- Maintain flexibility in work scheduling
- Perform other duties, as required by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Virginia Licensed Veterinary Technician or equivalent certification required
- Previous controlled-substance inventory experience preferred
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to communicate well over the phone, in person, and in writing
- Ability to lift patients, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to provide proof of a good driving record
