Position Objective:
To use a variety of investigative methods to conduct field investigations in PETA's four focus areas: the use of animals for food, clothing, experimentation, and entertainment
Term of Employment:
Full-time
Reports to:
Manager of Investigations
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Travel to and live in a variety of on-site locations in different states to investigate and document animal abuse
- Conduct investigations from beginning to end:
- Visit or obtain employment at facilities that use animals
- Prepare log notes detailing daily activities
- Use photography and videography to document animals' conditions and illegal or improper conduct
- Work closely with the manager and research associates to develop case materials and provide clarification of documentation
- Give media interviews
- Cooperate fully in legal and/or regulatory/administrative proceedings that result from investigations
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
Qualifications:
- Appropriate experience in a related field or relevant experience, depending on the organization's needs
- Willingness to travel up to 100 percent of the time
- Ability to gather facts, write in an understandable manner, record experiences daily, and film and photograph, where appropriate
- Ability to make sound judgments
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion at all times
- Knowledge of relevant animal protection laws
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
- Must have a valid driver's license with three years' clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
