Position Objective:
To respond to calls from residents of Hampton Roads and North Carolina who are seeking assistance with various animal issues

Reports to:
Vice President of the Cruelty Investigations Department
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist with fieldwork locally and in CAP's service areas in North Carolina, including providing assistance with companion animal care, picking up injured or unwanted animals (including wildlife), trapping feral animals, providing owner-requested euthanasia, and conducting investigations involving neglected or abused animals
- Assist with cleaning the Windsor animal shelters in North Carolina
- Transport animals to and from spay-neuter appointments and other veterinary appointments
- File complaints with animal control agencies, when possible, in situations requiring legal intervention, and follow up to ensure that action is taken
- Perform emergency first-aid procedures and euthanasia
- Maintain a daily log of animals handled and other related and legally required paperwork, and keep detailed documentation of cases handled, including photographing conditions when appropriate
- Cross-train on handling incoming calls, returning client phone calls, and preparing case sheets, as needed
- Cross-train on assisting with spay-neuter surgeries in PETA's SNIP (Spay and Neuter Immediately, Please!) clinic
- Assist with PETA's spay-neuter efforts in North Carolina by making related appointments with veterinary clinics, speaking with animals' guardians, making reminder calls, etc., as needed
- Participate in the CAP emergency-pager rotation
- Assist with setting up for and caring for incoming animals who must be held, as needed
- Assist with the maintenance and stocking of CAP's quarantine rooms and related areas, including cabinets and closets
- Assist with the maintenance of CAP's vehicles, exam room, and warehouse and keeping them stocked with necessary supplies
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Basic animal-handling skills and euthanasia certification (on-the-job training will be provided)
- Good problem-solving and crisis-management skills
- Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision
- Ability to use independent judgment and discretion
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
- Ability to coordinate several tasks at once and handle frequent interruptions
- Ability to manage time wisely and prioritize tasks
- Ability to be on 24-hour emergency call
- Must have a valid driver's license with three years' clean driving record
- Demonstrated commitment to the objectives of the organization
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. without assistance
- Ability to engage in frequent bending, stooping, crawling, lifting, reaching, and stair-climbing
