Position Objectives:
- To develop programs and materials that assist private and government-run animal shelters throughout the country and abroad in improving programs, training staff, and implementing changes to raise operating and animal care standards
- To assist agencies and municipalities in creatively, professionally, and /or legislatively addressing common problems facing companion animals, providing hands-on assistance to those agencies as needed

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work with government officials and humane organizations to implement forward-thinking, preventive measures to reduce companion animal overpopulation and its ensuing suffering in their communities
- Develop partnerships with nonprofit organizations and government agencies to reduce companion animal overpopulation and address common practices that result in cruelty and neglect, such as dog chaining and allowing cats to roam unsupervised
- Develop and distribute training materials for animal sheltering and control personnel and occasionally provide field training in all areas of animal control and sheltering, including shelter cleaning, animal handling, and field services
- Develop relationships with private and government-run animal shelters throughout the country and abroad to provide assistance in improving programs, training staff, and implementing needed changes to raise operating standards in those shelters and animal care standards in the community
- Occasionally perform site visits when invited and meet with officials to help institute needed improvements in animal care and control programs
- Give print, radio, and television interviews
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Degree in related field
- Work experience in a full-service, open-admission animal shelter or humane association
- Knowledge of various euthanasia procedures
- Certified Euthanasia Technician or the proven ability to become certified within 90 days of hiring
- Ability to make independent decisions in crisis situations needing authority intervention
- Ability and willingness to travel required
- Proven communication skills, with exceptional writing skills
- Previous casework-related mediation or intervention experience desired
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
