Major Gifts Officer
Position Objective:
To develop and implement successful fund-raising strategies for soliciting individual PETA donors
Term of Employment:

Reports to:
Director of Major Gifts
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Identify and research appropriate “cases for giving” for targeted donors
- Maintain regular contact with specific groups of donors, and act as a professional contact for them
- Develop and propose strategies for donor groups based on giving levels, and attempt to move individuals within groups to higher levels
- Cultivate relationships with targeted and prospective donors
- Solicit major financial donations from targeted donors through face-to-face meetings and related fund-raising techniques
- Document pertinent information for the purpose of enhancing and developing donor profiles for the Major Gifts database
- Prepare written and oral reports, as requested by the manager of Major Gifts
- Stay up to date on current fundraising techniques and methods used in the nonprofit sector, and attend professional training seminars, as requested
- Stay up to date on animal rights issues in general, and maintain a clear understanding of and ability to articulate the objectives of the organization and details about specific PETA programs
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Serve as “team leader” at fundraising events and other specific projects, as necessary, ensuring that volunteers and staff members understand responsibilities and are on schedule
- Solicit special foundation and corporate donations, as requested by the manager of Major Gifts
- Perform other duties, as requested by the manager of Major Gifts
Qualifications:
- Degree in a related field or three to five years of experience with major gifts nonprofit fundraising required
- Leadership and public relations experience required
- Exceptional written and oral persuasive and explanatory communication skills
- Ability to maintain professional working relationships with members and supporters
- Ability to travel
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a valid driver’s license, with three years’ clean driving record
- Ability to represent PETA’s philosophy and professionally advocate PETA’s position on issues
- Ability to work independently and use discretion in confidential matters relating to donors
- Ability to manage projects and work together with multiple departments
- Ability to respond quickly to donor needs
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Commitment to the objectives and policies of the organization
